My Name Is & Workshops
My Name Is & Workshops are based around the photographic exhibition My Name Is & the exhibition showcases 72 black and white images showing disabled people living their lives.
The workshop is a free, comprehensive programme for school students facilitated by trained teachers. Where possible facilitators are LEOTC (Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom) teachers funded by the Ministry of Education.
The My Name Is & workshop is relevant to many of the key competencies and learning areas prescribed in the New Zealand curriculum. The workshop provides an innovative way to engage with some of the principles and values stated as key directions for learning, in particular: community engagement; inclusion; future focus; diversity; equity; community and participation; integrity and respect. It also offers students huge potential for personal and social learning.
There are 20 workshops per exhibition and we are keen that they all are filled.
During the first week of the exhibition years 5 - 8 classes are encouraged to register to work with a professional photographer to create a multi media presentation called Our Stories Film Fest . Two schools that attend the My name is & workshop will be randomly selected to participate in this unique opportunity at no cost to them.

Film Fest Workshops
Bridgit Anderson, photographer and documentary maker from the Fine Arts Department at Canterbury University is contracted by our stories to deliver the Film Fest extension workshop and show.
This is open to students from years 7 and 8 who have participated in the My name is & workshops.
The Film Fest workshops are four 3 hour sessions which take place in your school. The students work in small groups of 3 or 4 with a guest from within the local community. All the guests have a disability. The students interview the person about their life, take photographs and using the latest technology, produce a 3 minute DVD.
This workshop culminates in a Film Fest evening where the DVD s are showcased and viewed by the wider community.

You can also see the story of the exhibition by photographer Hanne and how the work of taking these photos was for her and some of the people she met.
