NEWSFLASH! 8 April to 28 May 2010 - HAMILTON LAUNCHES "OUR STORIES"
The our stories exhibition, opens at the Calder Lawson Gallery, WEL Energy Trust of Performing Arts, Waikato University, Hamilton from 8 April - 28 May 2010 (free entry) and challenges Kiwis to get to know people with disabilities to see the person first, rather than the disability.
"our stories" is sponsored by IHC with support from CCS Disability Action and is more than just an exhibition. It includes workshops for schools and sends the message that people with disabilities have a right to participate in the community, to share in family life, have a job and ambitions.
Primary school workshops will run at the gallery for two weeks from 10 - 21 May 2010. School bookings for classes in years 5-8 are currently being taken enquiries via phone: 03 341 9290 or email: pip.o'connell@ihc.org.nz.
These workshops are an opportunity for students to meet local guest speakers with lived experience of disability who will talk about their experience of school, growing up, family, work, hopes and dreams.
