The response to the “Our Stories” project from Wellington has been fantastic. A large number of people continue to view the photo exhibition at TheNewDowse which will be showing until the end of January 2009.
The response to the school workshops has been enthusiastic. Lots of school students met local people with lived experience of disability in the workshops which were held at the gallery.
The students said that the chance to meet someone with a disability and chat to them about their life was the highlight of their experience.
Students from Saint Peter and Pauls and Hutt Intermediate have had the opportunity to work with a professional photographer, Bridgit Anderson to produce short DVDs which share the lives of people from within their community who live with disability.
The viewing of the documentaries made by the students will be held at the “Film Fest”, Tuesday 02 December at 7.00pm at TheNewDowse, 45 Laings Road, Lower Hutt. Entry is free, supper provided and everybody is welcome to attend this fantastic event.
IHC and CCS Disability Action would like to thank the Wellington community for supporting “Our Stories”.

The Our Stories exhibition, opens at TheNewDowse, Petone Settlers Museum, Lower Hutt on 13 September 2008 – 01 February 2009 (free entry) and challenges Kiwis to get to know people with disabilities – to see the person first, rather than the disability.
