WHANGAREI LAUNCH
The weather in Whangarei on Friday 01 August, certainly didn t dampen the enthusiasm and support for the launch of our stories at Reyburn House Art Gallery. Kahu Sutherland, Deputy Mayor acted as Master of Ceremonies and those present were welcomed by Kamatua Raumoa Kawaiti, other local Maori speakers and the Hatea Kapa Haka group. Trish Grant, Director of Advocacy for IHC and David Matthews, Regional Manager Upper South for CCS Disability Action both spoke about the value of people with lived experience of disability and the importance of local people sharing their experiences. Jonny Wilkinson, CEO of Tiaho Trust who are the Local Project Co-ordinators said Disabled people are citizens and community members just like everybody else and they add value to the community when they are able to be included. We strive to make Northland a less disabling community by trying to improve information and services up to 20% of New Zealanders are disabled in some way. This is a great opportunity for us to get on board and to make a difference.
EXHIBITION IN WHANGAREI FOR EXTENDED PERIOD
The our stories exhibition will be open to the public from now until Sunday, 17 August. Entry is free.
