Wellington - Employer's Evening
|
The employers evening is a great opportunity to network over drinks and nibbles. You will hear some inspiring stories and information that will encourage employers to look within their own businesses to create job opportunities for disabled people.
Employer's Evening
Date: 16 September 2008
Time: 5:30pm to 7pm
Venue:
The New Dowse
45 Laing Street
Lower Hutt
150 people enjoyed the Wellington launch of Our Stories at The New Dowse gallery in Lower Hutt. Tony Shaw from the IHC Foundation was the MC for the evening and a variety of speakers including local people with lived experience of disability talked about the importance of breaking down barriers to inclusion in the community for disabled people.
The launch was followed the next week by an employment evening sponsored by the Hutt Chamber of Commerce and Business Hutt Valley. Guests Kendall, Jessie and Maria spoke to a group of 35 people about their experiences of employment. This personal experience was followed by Workbridge and Work and Income outlining ways in which they could assist employers to take the step and employ a person with a disability.
The “our stories” team is now looking forward to the community development evening which is being held at The New Dowse on Tuesday, 23 September and working on confirming schools to take part in the primary school workshops.
