“My Name Is…” Workshops
You can book now for the upcoming workshops.
Dates: Mon 01 June - Fri 12th June 2009
“My Name Is…” Workshops are based around the photographic exhibition “My Name Is…” the exhibition showcases 72 black and white images showing disabled people living their lives.
The workshop is a free, comprehensive programme for school students facilitated by trained teachers. Where possible facilitators are LEOTC (Learning Experiences Outside The Classroom) teachers funded by the Ministry of Education.
The “My Name Is…” workshop is relevant to many of the key competencies and learning areas prescribed in the New Zealand curriculum. The workshop provides an innovative way to engage with some of the principles and values stated as key directions for learning, in particular: community engagement; inclusion; future focus; diversity; equity; community and participation; integrity and respect. It also offers students huge potential for personal and social learning.
There are 20 workshops per exhibition and we are keen that they all are filled.
During the first week of the exhibition years 7-8 classes are encouraged to register to work with a professional photographer to create a multi media presentation called “Our Stories Film Fest”. Two schools that attend the “My name is …” workshop will be randomly selected to participate in this unique opportunity – at no cost to them.
You can register now to join the "My Name Is ..." workshops in New Plymouth in Aug 08.
