Community Groups
Why open up your club or group to include disabled people?
Disabled people are just like their able bodied peers, we enjoy many types of recreation and leisure. When you include us in your club or group there are many positive benefits to all the members, not just to us. An increased membership where some members have a disability may open up new opportunities for funding for your community group.
Your attitude makes a difference
The key to accepting us into your club or group lies in you all having a positive attitude about us!
- You can help by:
- Treating us the same as any other members
- Understanding us and considering the impact our impairment has on our daily life
- Finding ways to adapt activities if needed
- Encouraging interaction with us
What happens in your club or group?
How are disabled members supported in your club or group? Is your meeting place accessible for everyone in the community: disabled people, older people or parents with pushchairs, for example? What information do you need to make inclusion of disabled people happen?
