Access Matters - Retailers

Everybody in society likes to access the activities and services available in their local community. Disabled people are no different. We like to use public transport, go shopping, go to the gym and attend school. Not only that, but we also have appointments with medical professionals, or at various government departments, or we may wish to fossick in our local library.

In order for us to access these activities and services they must be accessible.

Retailers

We enjoy shopping. Here are some tips to make our shopping excursions enjoyable:
  • Easy access including self opening doors everybody benefits, not only us
  • Adequate distance between shelving to enable those of us using mobility equipment, or parents with pushchairs adequate room to do a 360 degree turn easily without bumping into anything
  • An accessible changing room
  • Low counters
  • Staff trained in disability awareness contact CCS Disability Action for more information
